About This Venue
The Tea Room occupies the sixth floor of the historic Wilkins Building at 713 Walnut Street, with its entrance on 8th Street. Built in 1925 as the Younkers department store tea room and painstakingly restored after a fire nearly destroyed it, the main hall offers more than 5,000 square feet with floor-to-ceiling windows, original and restored ornate plasterwork, a stage, a dance floor, and Juliet balconies. The venue hosts events up to 300 attendees, while the adjoining Garden and Jubilee Rooms add 2,688 square feet for groups of 100 to 150.
Programming runs from large wedding receptions and formal dinners to corporate seminars, fashion shows, cocktail fundraisers, bridal showers, and rehearsal dinners, with a dedicated event manager on staff. It is best for formal weddings, galas, and corporate dinners that want downtown Des Moines' most architecturally significant ballroom.
